Although he’s primarily known for his high-octane action scores, composer Brian Tyler is shaping up to be one of the more eclectic and diverse composers working in Hollywood today. He’s sped his way through Hollywood with scores for blockbusting studio flicks and smaller indie darlings including Bubba Ho-Tep (2002), Fast & Furious (2009), Battle Los Angeles (2011), Iron Man 3 (2013), Crazy Rich Asians (2018), and more recently the TV series Formula 1 (2019) and the upcoming Swamp Thing (2019). He’s an incredibly busy composer! Although his unique and distinct sound for big studio films is what folks remember him most for, he’s really got an eclectic palette which becomes evident when you follow him down his other paths.
His two latest scores What Men Want (2019) and Five Feet Apart (2019) fall into these categories as they are a romantic comedy and romantic drama respectively.
Our favorite podcasting interviewer of all things film music related, Tony Giles, has delivered us another wonderful film composer podcast. This time, Tony goes mano e mano with Brian Tyler as they discuss his latest foray into his romance with two of his latest scores which can be eloquently beautiful, tender, and emotional, modern, funny, and when it calls for it…funky.
Check out this video Tyler posted of him recording all the instruments for the signature track for What Men Want entitled “Boom!” Brian posts videos like these fairly often and it’s pretty badass.
Tyler’s score for What Men Want is out now and Five Feet Apart will be released Friday, March 15, 2019 both by Lakeshore Records. Now sit back and relax and let Tony ask the questions you’ve longed to ask…
