Sounds like McKenna Grace will be picking up a proton pack for Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters sequel: according to THR, she’s set to play one of the four Ghostbusting teens in the movie, alongside Finn Wolfhard. THR's report goes so far as to say she might even be in the starring role, so if you hear that sound, it’s the cries of a thousand Ghostbros wailing from their mother’s basements.
Even for a child actor, Grace already has a formidable filmography. Her credits include The Haunting of Hill House, Gifted, and Independence Day: Resurgence. She’s also locked down the cottage industry of playing the young version of female protagonists in flashbacks (see Hillhouse, Captain Marvel, I, Tonya, and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina).
Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters is set to come out on July 20, 2020 and is still being touted as a continuation of the first two films of the franchise. Reitman’s choice of words regarding this new entry led some people to believe that the film would be made as a response to the sexist backlash that Ghostbusters (2016) received, but now that McKenna Grace has been cast as the film’s ostensible lead, one hopes this will put that speculation to rest.
