The world of Star Wars is a secretive one, almost as secretive as the world of JJ Abrams. Put 'em together, and the famed JJ Abrams "Mystery Box" becomes as impenetrable as Fort Knox, with even the most basic details kept firmly under wraps (a friend of mine recently interviewed Abrams and jokingly asked if Constable Zuvio, a background character in Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, would return for Star Wars: Episode IX; he declined to answer the question). On the one hand, you gotta respect the hucksterism. On the other hand, we got tired of calling it Star Wars: Episode IX well over a year ago.
But today brings good news: Abrams is finally beginning to peel back the curtain on Episode IX, starting with the title:
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Huh. Well, we don't know what we expected, but it certainly wasn't that!
As with all Star Wars titles, it's probably gonna take a minute for us to wrap our heads around it (remember how baffled we were when "Attack of The Clones" was announced?), but we've got a good eight months to let it settle. Let us know what you think of the title in the comments below, and stay tuned for more out of Star Wars Celebration in the very near future.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
