The first trailer for HBO's Watchmen has finally made its way online.
I'm just gonna get out of its way and let it do its thing.
Now, you might be thinking, "This doesn't look like the Watchmen I know and love!", but we've been prepared for that. Just over a year ago, executive producer Damon Lindelof ran an open letter about his latest series on Instagram, wherein he warned fans not to expect a straight-up adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' classic comic series, but something more along the lines of a remix. Looking at this trailer, it's clear Lindelof wasn't lying: while a number of familiar elements are certainly at play here, it's clear that this Watchmen will be telling an entirely different story (one which appears to be taking place long after the events of Moore and Gibbons' series).
But even with that in mind, it's hard to get a feel for what story this Watchmen's telling. Here's what we do know: Jeremy Irons is onboard to play Ozymandias; the series will also features characters played by Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens and Frances Fisher; and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are doing the score. All of these are things worth getting excited about...we just wish we knew a little bit more about what to expect!
If nothing else, the imagery contained in the trailer above has our curiosity piqued - we like what we see here, and we're dying to learn more. Stay tuned for further updates of Watchmen as they roll in, and while you're waiting: what do you make of the above? Are you open to a "remixed" take on this property? Beyond Ozymandias, what other classic Watchmen characters (if any!) do you expect to see in Lindelof's series? Sound off in the comments below.
