George Clooney Will Direct And Star In Netflix’s GOOD MORNING, MIDNIGHT Adaptation
According to Variety, George Clooney has just closed a deal to direct and star in an adaptation of Lily Brooks-Dalton’s sci-fi novel, Good Morning, Midnight, for Netflix. This won't be Clooney's first foray into the streaming space (he just executive produced and appeared in Amazon's Catch-22 series, which we enjoyed), but still: pretty good get for Netflix.
For those unfamiliar with Brooks-Dalton's novel, Variety's got a basic synopsis:
"The post-apocalyptic tale follows the parallel stories of Augustine (Clooney), a lonely scientist in the Arctic, and an astronaut on board the Aether spacecraft, which is trying to return home to Earth, as Augustine races to make contact with the spaceship."
Historically speaking, Clooney's directorial efforts have been all over the map in terms of quality (on the one hand, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind; on the other hand, Suburbicon), but for the most part we've enjoyed the man's output. Plus, Good Night, Midnight sounds like it could be a fun yarn (it was named one of the best books of 2017 by Chicago Review). We'll definitely give it a click whenever it lands on Netflix.
When will that be? There's no telling. Shooting begins this October, but who knows when it might arrive. We'll keep you informed as further updates roll in.
