The Explosive First CHARLIE’S ANGELS Trailer Is Here
It's been a while since this writer revisited the Charlie's Angels movies of the early 2000's, but my guess is that those McG-directed blockbusters have not aged particularly well. A little too "late '90s aesthetic". A little too "male gaze-y". A little too "I mentioned those movies were directed by McG, right?" Seems wise to just leave those films in the past.
This new Charlie's Angels, though? It's looking pretty good.
This is the first trailer for Elizabeth Banks' Charlie's Angels, starring Kristen Stewart, Ella Balinska and Aladdin's Naomi Scott (as the titular Angels) as well as Banks, Patrick Stewart and Djimon Hounsou (each of whom are playing a Bosley, which is now more of a spy title than an actual name). It looks pretty good! Banks clearly isn't backing down from the challenge of action set pieces, there's a fair amount of variety to the Angels' disguises (and a John Wick-style weapons room), the dialogue's snappy, and - perhaps most importantly - Kristen Stewart is visibly having fun here. Kristen Stewart having fun is a tremendously entertaining thing to watch, and this element may well be the biggest selling point on my end.
Here's an official plot synopsis:
"When a systems engineer blows the whistle on a dangerous technology, Charlie's Angels from across the globe are called into action, putting their lives on the line to protect society."
This one will arrive on November 15th, the same day James Mangold's Ford v Ferrari and Bill Condon's The Good Liar hit theaters (That's gonna make for one helluva moviegoing weekend, ain't it?). Stay tuned for many more updates on Charlie's Angels between now and then, and do feel free to sound off in the comments below if you've got anything to add here.
