Don’t Panic: Hulu’s Working On A New HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY Series

It's time to take another crack at this beloved property.

Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy is a dearly beloved property, a stone-cold comedy classic that's been adapted more times than you can count - as stage shows, comic books, video games, movies, radio comedies, a feature film, you name it. And now, thanks to Carlton Cuse (LOST) and Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman), it's about to become a Hulu series.

For those unfamiliar with Adams' novel, The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy revolves around a put-upon young man by the name of Arthur who, in the moments before Earth gets annihilated to make way for an intergalactic freeway, gets yanked off the surface of the planet by a character named Ford Prefect, author of the fictional tome Adams' novel is named after. The two get into a series of wacky misadventures, encountering the two-headed President of the Galaxy, a depressed robot and all manner of space bureaucracy along the way. The book's as silly as it is smart, and is definitely worth picking up if you've never given it a go.

Will it make for a good series? Sure, seems like it. It's worked in any number of other formats (some, yes, more so than others), and Cuse - who's serving as showrunner here - certainly knows his way around serialized television. Of course the casting will be key here (Arthur, in particular), and of course this is bound to be a wildly expensive series, but those are things for other people to worry about. All we need to do is decide whether or not we're interested. We are, and so we welcome this new take on Hitchhiker's Guide. What's the worst that could happen?

Stay tuned for more on Hulu's The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy as further updates become available.
