We now know what Walt Disney Animation Studios is working on besides Frozen II: a new original film called Raya and the Last Dragon. It’s described as an action-adventure inspired by Southeast Asian folklore, and will star Cassandra Steele as Raya and The Farewell’s Awkwafina as the titular Last Dragon (no, not Leroy Green).
Set in a fictional land called Kumandra, the film will chronicle the quest of a warrior named Raya as she travels the five regions in search of the last dragon in the world. Crazy Rich Asians’ screenwriter Adele Lim is scripting, and veteran Disney storyboard artists Paul Briggs and Dean Wellins are directing.
Raya and the Last Dragon comes out November 2020, giving you exactly one year to recover from Frozen II.
