Hallelujah: HBO Just Ordered A Second Season Of THE RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES

Have you been watching HBO's The Righteous Gemstones?

I ask because, in addition to being one of the funniest things I've seen all year, it's also turned out to be an unexpectedly thrilling little crime caper, one whose pilot had me making comparisons to the Coen Bros. I also ask because (according to Variety) HBO has apparently just greenlit a second season for the show, which is very exciting news.

This continues the already-extensive working relationship executive producers Danny McBride, David Gordon Green and Jody Hill have enjoyed with HBO over the years. That relationship has yet to produce a dud, and we're thrilled the network continues to give these lunatics the budget and space they need to continue producing their weird, darkly comic, impossibly venomous little shows. What a gift.

We are midway through The Righteous Gemstones' first season, and I suspect the full picture has yet to reveal itself. Here's hoping the back half of season one is just as strong as the first, and that the wait for The Righteous Gemstones S2 isn't too long. Stay tuned for further updates as they roll in.
