This New Trailer For THE LIGHTHOUSE May Be Keeping Secrets
By all accounts, Robert Eggers' The Lighthouse is as uncompromising as it is unique, which doesn't seem terribly surprising given that this is the follow-up film from The Witch director Robert Eggers. Starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe as two "wickies" (read: lighthouse attendants) who appear to slowly go mad while working on a most inhospitable island, it also looks right up our alley.
Today we've got a new trailer for the film, and it's somehow even more sinister than the last one.
OK, so, this trailer contains a few shots that feel a little spoilery, but then again...maybe not? It's hard to know what's real and what isn't here - which we imagine is intentional, given the subject matter. Dafoe and Pattinson look to be on fire here, fully energized by the material and, well, each other's unhinged performances. We can't wait for this one.
Here's an official plot synopsis, which isn't giving up anything:
"From Robert Eggers, the visionary filmmaker behind modern horror masterpiece The Witch, comes this hypnotic and hallucinatory tale of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s."
And here's a new poster, should that be something you'd enjoy seeing:
A24 will drop The Lighthouse into theaters on October 18th. Our bodies are ready.
