Stephen King's The Outsider is one of the author's best books of the past decade, and now it appears to have inspired HBO's next great limited series. That probably sounds a bit hyperbolic - we haven't actually seen The Outsider yet, so how could we know it's "great"? - but just watch this trailer and tell me this thing doesn't look like it's gonna whip all the ass in the world.
Strong True Detective season one vibes? Check. Jason Bateman playing a creeper? Check. Ben Mendelsohn, reporting for duty? Check, check, check. This trailer's leaning very heavily on the crime/mystery aspect of the story (as well it should!), but rest assured that things definitely drift into the realm of the supernatural. I'm very curious, indeed, to see how this particular production deals with those supernatural elements.
For those who haven't read The Outsider, here's a synopsis:
"Based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel of the same name, The Outsider begins by following a seemingly straightforward investigation into the gruesome murder of a young boy. But when an insidious supernatural force edges its way into the case, it leads a seasoned cop and an unorthodox investigator to question everything they believe in."
Yup. Putting all my chips on "This one's gonna be something special." We'll find out if I'm right starting on January 12th. Stay tuned.
