Please Enjoy The Unsettling First Trailer For COME TO DADDY
Ant Timpson's Come to Daddy is a film I feel like I've been hearing about for a long time, but despite its frequent presence at 2019 film festivals and the like, I've yet to actually see the film. I've also remained largely unspoiled on it. People who have seen it say things like, "Oh, man, did you see Come to Daddy yet?" or (while shaking their heads in mild disbelief) "Man...Come to Daddy" and I have no idea what they mean by it. "See it as soon as you can," they tell me.
It's clear this movie - a horror/comedy starring Elijah Wood as a dude who reconnects with his estranged father under what may or may not be sinister pretenses - will be well within my wheelhouse, but I'm still not sure what's got everyone so shook. Are there twists? Is there perhaps an element here that's best left unmentioned until I've actually seen Timpson's film? No idea, but I do know I'm excited to see it.
Anyway, today brings us the first Come to Daddy trailer and it does, in fact, look like my jam.
This looks great! I still don't know what game's being played here, precisely, but I know I'm sold. Come to Daddy initially appears to be a paranoid "two guys in a remote location"-type thriller, but then there's...a dude with a crossbow? A dark and mysterious well that leads down into who-knows-what? Elijah Wood rocking one of the most unfortunate haircuts I've seen all year? Yes, I would like to get to the bottom of this one immediately.
Here's an official plot synopsis:
"COME TO DADDY stars Elijah Wood (The Lord Of The Rings) as a man in his thirties who receives a cryptic invitation to a remote cabin for a visit with his father after a lifetime of estrangement. The film also stars Stephen McHattie (300), Martin Donovan (Big Little Lies), Michael Smiley (The Lobster), Madeleine Sami (Breaker Uppers), and Simon Chin (Killing Eve)."
Come to Daddy will hit select theaters and digital/VOD on February 7th. That's, what, like six, seven weeks away? I've waited this long to see Come to Daddy, I can make it that much longer. Y'all as intrigued by this one as I am? Sound off in the comments below, and stay tuned for more on this one as further updates roll in.
