Gareth Edwards Has His Sights On A New Sci-Fi Project

Hey, Gareth Edwards is back!

Remember Gareth Edwards?

You should. Dude seemingly arrived out of nowhere in 2010 with the excellent Monsters, brought that same sense of awe-inspiring scale to 2014's Godzilla, then turned around and delivered Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The issues that film had during production (which eventually led to Tony Gilroy being brought in to do reshoots, though it remains unclear exactly how much of the film belongs to each director) are probably to blame for the several-year filmmaking hiatus Edwards has been on, and that's a shame. This guy's got a real eye for spectacle, and we'd like to see him working more often. Good news is, we're about to get another chance.

According to Variety, Edwards has signed on to write and direct a new sci-fi project for New Regency. We don't know who's gonna be in it, what it's about, or even what it's called, but with shooting expected to begin this summer, we imagine we'll be hearing more very shortly. Here's hoping that it's something with big-ass creatures in it; Edwards does those very well.

We're eager to learn more about this one and will be keeping our ear to the ground for updates. Stay tuned.
