Quentin Tarantino is in that dangerous place where he wants to be creative but has no new movie to make, so he wants to do absolutely everything. His enthusiasm for working on stuff is truly inspiring and his willingness to talk about these whims publicly is a lot of fun. And like, only fun.
The latest hypothetical Tarantino project comes from an off-hand remark in a recent episode of the PURE CINEMA podcast. When asked about writing a novelization for any of his films, he claims:
“I hadn’t thought about that until recently. But now I’m thinking a lot about it. I might be writing a novelization to ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD.”
God, can you imagine. It’s a close call, but I think I would rather have this than that idea he had of producing a whole season of BOUNTY LAW. ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD is such a lived-in, luxuriating movie, I would love to sink into that world in book form.
But we’ve all been through this a million times with Tarantino. It just comes with the territory of loving him (though I’m not so calloused that I didn’t get my heart hurt a little by the loss of his STAR TREK film). What we all need to concentrate on is whatever his final film will be. If it truly is his last movie, I’m sure he’s going to go out with a bang.
