Composer Podcast: Will Bates Scores SyFy’s NIGHTFLYERS

Will Bates visits deep space aboard SyFy's NIGHTFLYERS and returns to tell his tale.

I can’t keep up with television. To say that the various cable and streaming services have thrust us into a vibrant renaissance of TV is a gross understatement. Our eyes and ears are literally flooded with options and what’s most surprising is the high degree of quality these shows are achieving.

I have to admit, I’m not a big TV person, not because I don’t like it but rather it’s so incredibly time-consuming for me, and the thought of starting any show is daunting. But I have my finger on the pulse of TV music and it’s pumping!

Case in point, SyFy has a new series which premiered last year called Nightflyers (2018) based on the science fiction horror novella by George R. R. Martin. It’s a show about a team of scientists in 2093 who embark upon the most advanced space vessel ever built in an attempt to contact alien life. The score is composed by Will Bates (of Fall On Your Sword) who is one of the busiest composers for television working today.

Aaron Vehling from the Vehlinggo Podcast sat down with Will and chatted with him about scoring the show. I love these behind-the-music podcasts and this one is certainly an interesting one. Check it out and while you’re at it, hear what Will Bates is doing over at Nightflyers

Enjoy! You can listen to it here!
