It’s Official: AVENGERS: ENDGAME Is The Biggest Movie Of All Time

You had a good run, AVATAR.

Some of you are really, really into box office stats.

Lots of you - ourselves included - are really, really into Avengers: Endgame.

Almost three dozen of you are really, really into James Cameron's Avatar.

Let us all come together, now, as Marvel takes the SDCC stage, to acknowledge the following: the Russo Bros.' Avengers: Endgame will officially become the biggest movie of all time this weekend, toppling the $2.789B record set by Cameron's 2009 film. For a while there, it looked like Endgame wouldn't quite make it, but according to Variety...

"On Saturday, Disney and Marvel’s blockbuster crossed $2.7892 billion at the global box office, and will exceed the $500,000 in ticket sales needed to surpass Avatar’s $2.7897 billion benchmark."

Does Avengers: Endgame's box office take mean that it's a better movie than Avatar? No. Does it make any sense for fans of Avengers: Endgame to celebrate the further fattening of Disney's bank account? Probably not. Does this little factoid really mean anything, to any of us, either as fans or non-fans of the MCU? Not really!

But again, some of y'all are really into box office stats, and it's always fun to see something you love succeed so substantially. With that in mind, we're raising a glass to the Russo Bros.' success tonight, and look forward to doing this all over again when Avatar 2 hits theaters in...well, whenever it's ready. Let's call it 2045, just to be safe.

Also, on a personal note, this is the 5,682nd Avengers: Endgame-related post I have written in the last several years, and I do hope it's my last. Soak it in, everyone. It's been quite the journey.
