BLOW OUT Comes To The Criterion Collection On Blu-Ray!

Brian De Palma’s masterpiece finally comes to Blu-Ray, thanks to the dapper folks at the Criterion Collection.

This is usually Moises’ beat, but I’m going to step in just for this breaking news announcement - Blow Out is coming to the Criterion Collection. We actually knew this - way back in the earliest days of this site I made Blow Out the Daily trailer because the Criterion newsletter hint gave it away - but now it’s really official. With an April 26th release date.

Blow Out is one of De Palma’s masterpieces. John Travolta is a sound engineer who accidentally records a political assassination. Nancy Allen is a girl who is used as part of the assassination set up. And John Lithgow is a monstrously creepy wetworks type who uses the whole thing as an excuse to commit sexually oriented murders. It is a De Palma film, after all.

This new Blu Ray transfer was supervised by De Palma himself. And the disc is packed with features, including:

New hour-long interview with De Palma, conducted by filmmaker Noah Baumbach
New interview with star Nancy Allen
Cameraman Garrett Brown on the Steadicam shots featured in the film within the film
Select on-set photos from photographer Louis Goldman
Original theatrical trailer
More!
PLUS: A booklet featuring an essay by critic Michael Sragow and Pauline Kael’s original New Yorker review

What a great set. That De Palma interview is worth the price of admission alone, I bet.

If you haven’t seen Blow Out before you’re in for a treat. If you have, you know how exciting this is. It’s a good day to be a movie nerd.
