James Spader is Joining THE OFFICE, Not Replacing Steve Carrell

This was rumored days ago, and now that the announcement is official, it appears as if everyone forgot how to read (as usual). The Twitter News Network, even more unreliable than cable news, is reporting that Boston Legal‘s Alan Shore is replacing Anchorman‘s Brick Tamland. He’s actually replacing The Waterboy‘s Mama Boucher.

For those who follow the show, Spader is replacing Kathy Bates as the CEO of Dunder Mifflin Sabre. They’ve teased in today’s press release that he got hired as the new boss and worked his way up to CEO within days.

That means they still don’t have a Regional Manager. It’s possible that there won’t be a new Regional Manager at all, or that the rumors of Catherine Tate (Doctor Who, The Catherine Tate Show) taking that job could still come to fruition. Spader and Tate sparring comedically could bring about the biblical apocalypse I don’t believe in.
