ZERO DARK THIRTY: Trailer For Kathryn Bigelow’s Hunting Bin Laden Movie
If Zero Dark Thirty came out in October it would probably sway the November presidential elections. That's why GOP pundits and lawmakers are already crying foul over the film, claiming that screenwriter Mark Boal was handed sensitive information by the current administration in order to make the movie's depiction of the hunt for and killing of Osama bin Laden more accurate and realistic. It's tough when the facts are against you, I guess.
They shouldn't be so worried, Boal says. The film isn't a glorification of Obama's brave, difficult decision to pull the trigger, as opposed to George W. Bush's decision to fuck Operation Jawbreaker in 2001, allowing bin Laden to escape.
“There’s no political agenda in the film. Full stop. Period,” says Boal, a veteran journalist and war correspondent. “A lot of people are going to be surprised when they see the film. For example, the president is not depicted in the movie. He’s just not in the movie.”
The trailer itself is a little underwhelming. It's a lot of voice over and Google Maps with shadowy figures and stuff; I was hoping for more glimpses of special forces in action, or some shots of evil Al Qaeda masterminds or something. It looks sort of like a book trailer to me, honestly.
