Our Daily Trailer: SHARKTOPUS

Shark daily trailer week continues on BAD with Roger Corman's SyFy movie about a giant shark with tentacles.

It's Shark Week everywhere, but mostly we're just excited about the debut of Jaws on Blu. We're celebrating the only way we know how: with trailers.

I saw Sharktopus as a Fantastic Fest 2010 double feature along with Machete Maidens Unleashed, and Roger and Julie Corman were in attendance. The 2010 SyFy movie is produced by the Cormans (and Roger also cameos as a beach bum), and it's pretty much what it sounds like: Mega Shark and Giant Octopus are now ONE! Women in bikinis flee in terror! The ocean runs red with gore! Eric Roberts is there!

Roberts is a military scientist who created Sharktopus as a weapon, but as Dr. Ian Malcolm always says, life finds a way. Sharktopus can't be contained! Sharktopus escapes and begins wreaking tentacled havoc all over Mexico as Roberts and his crew of arguably attractive people try to capture it. Sharktopus spends an alarming amount of time out of water, considering both sharks and octopi need water to live.

The movie is only 89 minutes but feels considerably longer. I forget how it ends (does Sharktopus find love?), but I do know that all of the best scenes are in the trailer. Enjoy.
