Shane Carruth’s UPSTREAM COLOR Gets A Very Intriguing Teaser

I don't understand any of it, but it looks awesome all the same.

As Devin reported last week, Upstream Color, Shane Carruth's long awaited follow up to the much beloved Primer is a real thing that is happening to us. Those going to Sundance get to see it early, but the rest of us need only wait until March. That'll be here before you know it. Such are the sands of time.

As proof, today we get the film's first trailer. It's very short and elliptic, selling aesthetic more than any actual narrative, but I find it striking enough to confirm this once and for all as one of 2013's top, must-see films. I must know what happens to that pig.

The nine year gap between this and Primer is actually just the right amount of time for me: long enough that I'm extra excited, yet also far enough away from Primer that I can more easily judge it on its own terms. I have no idea what to expect, but at this point I certainly don't expect anything like what came before. The trailer cements this position - I'd happily watch this film whether I knew of Primer or not. When you have a guy who claims to have a sun for a face, I'm in. I don't care who made it.

What do you guys think? Will Upstream Color buckle under the pressures of high expectations or will audiences give it a chance to prove itself on its own terms?
