No FAST AND FURIOUS 7 For Justin Lin
The Fast & Furious franchise lives its life one quarter mile at a time. Some quarter miles are boring. Some are more homoerotic than others. And some are just fucking kick ass. Justin Lin has been a part of the franchise for a whole mile's worth of quarter miles (4). But now he's stepping away.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that the patron saint to the Fast & Furious films will not be returning for a seventh entry, which is especially too bad since Part 7 is sort of supposed to be more of a Part 6 Part 2.
While certainly unfortunate news, we all knew this ride had to end sometime. There was no way the Fast & Furious franchise's magical faerie NOS dust was going to last forever.
Lin's exit puts the series back in the hands of God, and frankly, God's probably getting tired of pulling Vin Diesel's ass out of the fire. Statistically it's time for a shitty Fast & Furious film. It's like doing homework or eating your veggies. We need to steel ourselves for this.
According to the article, Lin's main beef has to do with the hyper speed Universal wants to utilize for Fast 7. So not only is Fast 7 going to be Lin-Less, but it's being put together on the fly above all other considerations. Smart.
If we're lucky, however, we still have one great Fast & Furious film to look forward to when Part 6 comes out this May. I don't even want to fathom a world where that film disappoints as well, which is why I have chosen to never see it.
