INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 No Longer A Summer 2015 Movie

Emmerich gazed into the abyss. But it did not consume him.

It looks like Independence Day 2 will now be a 2016 film. The film has just been moved from its original July 3, 2015 release date to July 1 the following year.

This is good for so many reasons. One, it will mark the 20th anniversary of the first movie. Two, the film at this point seems like a hint of the beginning of the inkling of an idea rather than a solid production. And three, people might actually see it now. As Devin puts it, Summer 2015 is going to be a bloodbath. That's wonderful for people who like bloodbaths (psychopaths, me, etc.), but probably bad for most of the movies involved.

With a whole year added to the Independence Day schedule, they have more time to woo Will Smith and maybe even write a script. So this is definitely a win for America. The more of these we make, the less aliens will think of fucking with us.
