GODZILLA Teaser Trailer Is Here To Stomp Your City

As promised the Godzilla trailer is finally here. If anyone out there had any lingering suspicion that this would be a cartoonish riff on Jurassic Park, those should probably now be firmly extinguished.

Gareth Edwards' Godzilla looks to be a somber affair, filled with the gravitas befitting a giant lizard that stomps the shit out of everyone. This is kind of a sad trailer. I think it might be a bit of a sad film. But when that paratrooper's point of view finally lands on the vaguely visible creature, it seems safe to say this will be a pretty respectful addition to the series.

This is also a teaser in the old school sense of the world. We get enough to cement interest, but very little solid visual information comes our way. There's no real indication, for instance, that this will feature other monsters doing battle with Godzilla. Aside from the serious tone, that's the number one thing I'm excited for. But I'm also glad that the details of this remain mysterious for now.

Godzilla comes out May 16. I will be there.
