You Can Soon Cry At THE WONDER YEARS At Home As God Intended
This could be way off, but The Wonder Years does not strike me as a show that will translate well to audiences who didn't grow up with it. I think it was a series for either very young people who related to Kevin Arnold or very middle aged adults who related to the period nostalgia. Kids who weren't born yet and young adults too busy with college and drug use probably had/have no real connection to the show, beside maybe hating it.
But for the rest of us, The Wonder Years was special. I refuse to rewatch it simply because I would like to keep liking it. But my significant other, who amazingly enough did NOT turn out to be Winnie Cooper, tried watching it on Netflix not too long ago and I happened to overhear the new version of Joe Cocker's version of "With a Little Help From My Friends." It was pretty bad.
It now looks like the reign of the non-Joe Cocker version of Joe Cocker's version of "With a Little Help From My Friends" is at an end, as is the show's long absence from DVD. We are finally going to get a solid home video version of The Wonder Years with "virtually every song" that made you cry so long ago intact. Wouldn't it be funny if by "virtually" that meant the Joe Cocker opener was the one they couldn't secure?
The big DVD release won't come until late 2014. Until then, you will have to cry all by yourself. Again.
