Doug Liman On A Younger SPLINTER CELL And A Younger Sam Fisher

Today IGN released an interview with Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman, whose next narrative feature (after an upcoming documentary titled Reckoning with Torture) is the film adaptation of Tom Clancy's video game series Splinter Cell. Liman's working with Tom Hardy on the script right now, and Hardy will play black ops agent Sam Fisher in the film - a younger version of Fisher than the one voiced by Michael Ironside in the first five installments of the game (though the most recent, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, was voiced by Smallville actor Eric Johnson, who's a couple of years younger than Hardy). 

On the younger casting, Liman said: 

I think everything about Splinter Cell will be younger. It’s a chance to come up with a new franchise that’s fresher, newer, younger. And Tom Hardy is such an incredible actor.

And about whether Fisher's celebrated goggles will be in the movie: 

Some of the tropes of the game will for sure be in the film. But also the fun of that is when you lose them, you know, just strip that stuff away and really make the character sort of have to operate without it.

Splinter Cell will hit theaters some time in 2015.
