There’s Finally A Plot Synopsis For The FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot

FANTASTIC FOUR news, as written up by a dude who's never read a FANTASTIC FOUR comic book.

We've been waiting for something tangible - cast photos, a costume reveal, a teaser trailer, anything - to surface on Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot for some time now, and today it looks like we've got something solid: an official plot synopsis, courtesy of the film's page on Rotten Tomatoes. Here's what it says:

THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.”

Speaking as a dude who's never read a Fantastic Four comic and never seen a Fantastic Four movie, this "teleporting to alternate universes" stuff sounds bonkers to me. That's absolutely not what I was expecting. But then again, Trank's film is meant to be a hard reboot, and further investigation (read: some light "poking around online") reveals that this "alternate universe" stuff is probably a nod to Marvel's Ultimate Fantastic Four series.

In other words, I really have no idea how to react to the synopsis above. Is this good news? Potentially good news? Cause for panic? Will Marvel fans riot in the streets? You tell me. No, really: you guys seem very up-to-speed on the current state of Marvel affairs, so put some of that expertise to work in the comments below for us non-Fantastic Four enthusiasts.
