Walton Goggins Is Co-Starring With Danny McBride In A David Gordon Green Comedy For HBO

It's about time, right?

Seemingly eternal dramatic ensemble actor Walton Goggins is taking the lead, alongside Danny McBride, in a new comedy for HBO called Vice Principals, created by McBride, David Gordon Green and McBride's Eastbound and Down co-creator Jody Hill. McBride and Goggins will also be joined by Boardwalk Empire's Shea Whigham and Freaks and Geeks and Cougar Town's Busy Philipps, and this is all super surprising and delightful casting.

Here's a little bit about Vice Principals:

Vice Principals tells the story of a high school and the people who almost run it: the vice principals: Neal Gamby (McBride) and Lee Russell (Goggins), a conniving politician who enters into an unholy alliance with Gamby.

Whigham plays Ray Liptrapp, the new husband of Gamby’s ex (Busy Phillips), and frequent target of his hostility, despite being a genuine and supportive guy. McBride, Hill, Green and Stephanie Laing executive produce.

So many things to be excited about here: I can't wait to see Goggins in a comedic role, and a lead at that. I can't wait to see Danny McBride and Busy Philipps sparring with one another. How have those two never worked together before? And I can't wait to see poor Shea Whigham become the object of McBride's considerable ire.

Vice Principals is getting 18 episodes and it's set to land in 2016.
