RINGS Will Give Us Even More THE RING Backstory

Taking the original Ringu series out of the equation, Gore Verbinski’s The Ring remake had a healthy dose of backstory in it. We came away with a pretty good idea of what had happened before that creepy kid started climbing through TVs and killing people to death.

Nevertheless, F. Javier Gutiérrez’s upcoming Rings, will be a total prequel. I’m not sure why anyone would really want that, but we’re getting it anyway. Maybe they’ll pull a fast one and it will be all about the really good parts of Samara’s childhood. Or maybe it will be about the Big Bang. I say why not.

David Loucka and Jacob Aaron Estes have both written drafts of this movie, and Akiva Goldsman is currently rewriting the script, so maybe finding an actual prequel story to tell is just as hard as it sounds. One way or the other, the film is set to come out in 3D (of course) November 13, 2015, which strikes me as very soon.
