TERMINATOR GENISYS Receives Coveted James Cameron Endorsement

"This is a renaissance."

In less than a month, Alan Taylor's Terminator Genisys will arrive in theaters, for better or for worse. The lead-up to this one's been rocky (see also: Entertainment Weekly's notoriously lame cast reveal photoshoot, the underwhelming trailers, the involvement of Jai Courtney), and hype levels seem conspicuously muted considering how close we are to the film's release, but who knows? Maybe this is just a classic case of "terrible marketing campaign, great movie." Maybe Terminator Genisys is going to knock all of us on our asses. Maybe it'll be the best of the bunch since 1991's Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

James Cameron certainly seems to think so! Check out this little featurette posted by Yahoo! Movies, wherein Cameron doles out some serious praise for Taylor's film:

Hmm. Cameron calls Genisys "very respectful" and "a renaissance," and says he considers it "the third film" in the Terminator franchise. High praise, indeed. If Cameron didn't enjoy Genisys, I suppose he didn't have to sit down and allow himself to be taped saying roughly a minute's worth of nice things about it. But then again, this is the same James Cameron who's prepared to spend the next ten years or so making Avatar sequels, so I'm not entirely convinced he's possessed of the most sound judgment.

Guess we'll find out when Terminator Genisys opens on July 1st. Quick poll: who's genuinely excited for this movie?
