MAMA Director Andy Muschietti May Direct Stephen King’s IT

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mama director Andy Muschietti is in negotiations to take over directing duties on New Line's It. As you'll recall, True Detective's Cary Fukunaga was onboard the project up until May, when he bowed out over budgetary disagreements (and, perhaps, a difference in opinion in regards to where It would be shot). Last we heard, Fukunaga had left the two-film project and taken both of his screenplays with him. Once New Line secures Muschietti - if that is, indeed, how this plays out - THR says the next step will be finding a writer to "tailor a script to Muschietti’s vision". 

Also up for debate: whether or not Will Poulter is still set to fill Tim Curry's clownshoes in the lead role of Pennywise. 

No word on a start date for this one (had Fukunaga directed, this thing would already be a month and a half into shooting), but we'll keep you informed as the situation develops. In the meantime, feel free to weigh in on this turn of events in the comments below. For what it's worth, I'm not jazzed by this choice, but I also barely remember anything about Mama beyond the film's weak-ass third act, so...perhaps a revisitation is in order.
