FREEHELD Fights For Marriage Equality, Oscars

A true story of the long road to equality, starring Ellen Page and Julianne Moore.

The world can get you down. You can turn on the TV and see a story about a guy shooting up a movie theater and think to yourself "Will it ever get better?"

It does! And it does in spectacular ways. Just ten years ago Laurel Hester, a dying New Jersey cop, had to fight to allow her pension to go to her wife. Today the Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality gives all married couples the same rights - what a beautiful distance to have traveled in a decade.

Freeheld is the story of Laurel Hester, played by Julianne Moore. The just-released trailer definitely hits a lot of those Oscar notes, but the cast for this movie - Ellen Page, Steve Carell and Michael Shannon are also in the film - make the Oscar baiting feel less like marketing and more like an acknowledgment of the film's place in the cinematic biosphere.

Check out the trailer and be happy that today's Laurel Hesters won't have to go through this nonsense.
