Channing Tatum Wants Doug Liman For GAMBIT
Channing Tatum’s Gambit movie took a hit last month with the loss of Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt over scheduling issues. But that sort of thing isn’t going to keep a guy like Tatum down for long.
According to ghost-like, unsubstantial rumors (via Deadline), Channing’s search for a new director now has its bullseye on Edge of Tomorrow and The Bourne Identity’s Doug Liman. That’s a smart move on Tatum’s part. Liman knows how to do action and tends to turn in surprisingly entertaining films. He is also not as handsome as Tatum, so there won’t be any competition on that front.
Of course, Channing Tatum wanting a guy doesn’t actually tell us much. It doesn’t mean Liman has any interest in directing Gambit. If he does, however, that would be a big step toward making this questionable film something worth anticipating at least a little. I like the idea of seeing a new Doug Liman movie much more than I like the idea of seeing Channing Tatum in a fake accent throwing explosive playing cards all over the place.
