Jon Hamm Joins Edgar Wright’s BABY DRIVER
Edgar Wright's next film is accruing an impressive cast. Up and comer Ansel Elgort stars as the titular Baby Driver, a getaway driver who has a personal soundtrack playing in his earbuds at all times, and Jamie Foxx is along for the ride as well. He's got Cinderella's Lily James along for the ride and now Wright has added another passenger: Jon Hamm.
Hamm has worked since Mad Men ended, but mostly in TV and in smaller roles. I've been waiting to see how he follows that show up, and I'm hoping that his Baby Driver role is a bigger one - he's just got so much screen presence and I am fascinated by the idea of Edgar Wright using his manly good looks in an interesting way. Wright's great with side characters (Wainwright and Cartwright are my absolute favorite Hot Fuzz characters) and while we don't know what Hamm's part is, I'm hoping it's a juicy and funny supporting role.
UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter says that Hamm is playing a bad guy. He's going to be a Wall Street broker turned cop killer... sort of a murderous Don Draper!
Since Baby Driver is sort of a musical - the music Elgort listens to will be in time with the action on screen - might we see Hamm getting a little jiggy with it? Also, is the first time in five years anyone has written "get jiggy with it"?
