The First Trailer For Jonás Cuarón’s DESIERTO Is Here

"From the filmmakers who brought you GRAVITY". Honestly, what else do you need to know?

Two years ago, Jonás and Alfonso Cuarón teamed up for Gravity, and the results were spectacular: an SFX extravaganza with heart, genuine thrills, and an appropriate (and exceptional) application of the 3D format? Stars like that don't align very often, which is probably one of the reasons Gravity earned nearly $725m at the worldwide box office. People loved it.

With numbers like that, you might've expected director Alfonso Cuarón to immediately move onto something even bigger (*cough Cuarón would've been an excellent choice for Episode IX cough*). Instead, he appears to have spent the interim producing his son Jonás' first feature film, a little thriller by the name of Desierto. The film's first trailer just arrived, and...well, take a look:

Oh, man. This looks fantastic. A grimy, desert-set thriller from the Cuaróns? Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Gael García Bernal? I'm onboard for all of that. Here's a more specific breakdown of the plot, as told via press release:

Desierto is a visceral, heart-pounding suspense-thriller packed with tension and suspense from start to finish, starring Gael García Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries and Y Tu Mamá También) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen). What begins as a hopeful journey to seek a better life becomes a harrowing and primal fight for survival when a deranged, rifle-toting vigilante chases a group of unarmed men and women through the treacherous U.S.-Mexican border.  In the harsh, unforgiving desert terrain, the odds are stacked firmly against them as they continuously discover there’s nowhere to hide from the unrelenting, merciless killer.

I remember hearing about Desierto somewhere along the line, but I'd honestly forgotten it was headed our way until this press release/trailer landed in my inbox. Very happy to have been reminded, and can't wait to see the final film when it arrives on March 4th.

How about you guys? This look up your alley? Also, follow-up question: Jeffrey Dean Morgan should totally be a bigger star by now, right?
