CONAN THE CONQUEROR Has A New Plot, It Seems

This is starting to sound more and more like RAMBO 5 all over again.

It’s getting harder to say what’s really going on with this supposed new Conan movie Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to make. Last June (when the film was still called Legend of Conan), the guy had this to say about it:

I was hoping to do another one, and I [liked] the idea of Conan having been king for a long time, then just threw it all away and went into retirement and went off into the mountains. That whole idea always appealed to me. Then of course he gets asked back because of some hideous and unbelievable things that are happening to the kingdom. So that’s when the battle begins again.

But this weekend, Arnold did an audience Q&A in Edinburgh, Scotland and described a very different Conan movie:

I’m sitting on the throne for years and years — decades, and then all of a sudden, the time comes when they want to overthrow me. So that story will be told and that movie will be done.

So instead of returning from retirement to save his people, the film is now about his people trying to overthrow him. There was mention before that the script (written by Fast & Furious’ Chris Morgan) needed some work. It sounds like it needed an overhaul.

At least Schwarzenegger is excited about it, though. He claims the script is done, and now they’re just looking for a director. Meanwhile, he just wrapped filming on the somewhat atypical revenge drama 478.
