The EDGE OF TOMORROW Sequel Isn’t Being Directed By Christopher McQuarrie

This morning, Deadline exclusively revealed that Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse have been hired to write a sequel to Doug Liman's Edge Of Tomorrow. Who are Shrapnel and Waterhouse?

Shrapnel and Waterhouse are much in-demand.

I see. Go on.

After getting their first proper feature produced this year with the Jesse Owens biopic Race,  the pair were brought on to do a rewrite of The Gray Man, based on the novel by Mark Greaney, at Sony. 

OK, fair enough. I enjoyed Edge Of Tomorrow and would be open to spending more time with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt's characters. I think Shrapnel and Waterhouse have some heavy lifting to look forward to in terms of justifying this sequel (imagine being hired to write a sequel to Groundhog Day), but I'm not up in arms about it happening. Sure, why not? This is a post Batman V Superman world, people. Nothing matters anymore. 

Anyway, Deadline's report went on to claim that Christopher McQuarrie would direct the sequel, a claim McQuarrie immediately denied on Twitter.

So, to recap: Doug Liman's going to direct (that'll mean back-to-back Cruise pictures for him, no?), Shrapnel and Waterhouse are writing, Cruise and Blunt are back onboard. As of now, we have no idea what the plot will entail, but odds are it'll involve some sort of time-distortion shenanigans, plus maybe Emily Blunt swinging that giant-ass helicopter-blade sword around. I say we let it happen. 

But how do you guys feel about Edge Of Tomorrow getting a sequel? Into it, or wish they'd leave well enough alone?
