Sigourney Weaver Is Pretty Sure Neill Blomkamp’s ALIEN Sequel Is Still Happening

This thing may happen yet!

Sigourney Weaver, who'll be helping the Alamo Drafthouse celebrate Alien Day next week, seems fairly certain that Neill Blomkamp's Alien sequel is still a go.

Over at IndieWire, they've got some new quotes from Weaver, who recently popped up at an event for VMWare and was asked about the status of the film. Here's her response when asked if the film's still going to happen.

"Well, I think it is. Ridley asked Neill not to make our Alien 'til after Prometheus 2.' (Ridley Scott) wanted his movie to shoot and be released first. But it’s an amazing script, and Neill and I are really excited about doing it. We’re doing other things until we can get going on that. I’d be really surprised if we didn't do it, because it’s such a great script, and we love working together. So, it’s just going to take a little bit longer to get out to you, but it’ll be worth the wait."

There's been a lot of back-and-forth on this project, which at times was slated to happen before Prometheus 2, concurrently with Prometheus 2, and will now apparently arrive after Prometheus 2 (which, by the way, was renamed Alien: Covenant quite some time ago; I don't know why you keep calling it Prometheus 2). There's also been some confusion - as yet unresolved confusion, I might add - as to when Blomkamp's Alien film will be taking place within the established Alien franchise timeline.

What do you guys think? Think it's going to happen? Not so much? Are you still as excited as I am that Danny McBride's going to be in that other Alien movie? Discuss.
