Up Up And Away: Superman Will Appear On SUPERGIRL

At the very beginning of season 2.

The first season of Supergirl, while uneven, was a lot of fun. The tone was totally correct, and the way that the show allowed the Multiverse to become a concept in the DC movie/TVverse is a blesssing and a half. The casting of Melissa Benoist was a huge victory, and I think we have a version of Supergirl who will define the character for years to come. Of course she'll be defined on the CW; the show didn't have the kind of ratings needed to stay on CBS (a problem most genre shows seem to run into - good enough for CW is NOT good enough for the major networks). But Supergirl is going to have a chance to show CW what kind of ratings it can pull in by having a major guest star in the first two episodes of season two:

Superman.

Yes, Superman existed in the world of Supergirl before, but always at a distance - obscured from view, speaking through texts, living in the memory of James Olsen. But in season two of Supergirl the Man of Steel will be showing up to hang out with his cousin, and the producers are casting the role right now.

This feels like a huge positive step for DC in general, and I wonder if it isn't an effect of Geoff Johns ascending to co-lead DC Films. While the TV shows and the movies are separate universes, the powers that be in the movies have denied the shows some characters. Suicide Squad has been pulled from the roster of Arrow, thanks to the upcoming movie. And Superman, it seemed, would be off limits for Supergirl. But that has clearly changed, which makes me wonder if Batman himself isn't far behind. I haven't seen every episode of Supergirl - has Gotham or Batman ever been mentioned in passing?

Now is the time on Sprockets when we fancast. Who will be the first to call Nathan Fillion? Don't even start with that shit, guys.
