HAMILTON Original Broadway Cast Will Film Performances Before Parting Ways
We already knew Lin-Manuel Miranda will leave Hamilton in July. Other cast members are probably going to leave as well. It’s sad, but that’s how it goes. People lucky enough to see Hamilton in the future will see a very good show, but not quite the show they fell in love with while repeatedly listening to the soundtrack.
But there’s good news! According to USA Today (the most respected newspaper in the world) Miranda and the rest of Hamilton’s original cast will film two performances of the show. What happens next is anyone’s guess. I assume they will one day release that for purchase, but that day may be a long time coming. Still! Patience is a virtue, and so long as we don’t die, it looks likely we’ll get to see the show in its original form, albeit on a TV screen.
Miranda also made it known that he’ll be replaced by his long-time understudy Javier Muñoz and that even though he’s leaving the role for now, that doesn’t mean he won’t pop back in from time to time:
"I think this is a role I'm going to be going back to again and again. I plan to revisit this role a lot”
So all in all, this is good news for Hamilton fans. Just imagine being at a random production in, say, Chicago and having Miranda jump into the role that night. How amazing would that be?
