You’re Never Going To Believe What Roland Emmerich’s MOONFALL Is About

Yes, that's right: it's about the moon falling on us.

As you well know, Roland Emmerich's Independence Day: Resurgence is now in theaters. What's done is done, and now it's time for Emmerich to line up his next project.

According to Deadline, it's already happened: Universal just spent seven figures acquiring Moonfall, a spec script written by Emmerich (along with frequent collaborators, Harald Kloser and Spencer Cohen), with Emmerich onboard to direct.

What's Moonfall about? I'm glad you asked.

This one is best described as Emmerich’s 2012 mashed together with Close Encounters of the Third Kind, following an unlikely band of misfits who must unite to save humanity when the moon falls out of orbit and hurtles towards earth.

Yes, in Roland Emmerich's Moonfall, a ragtag crew of misfits will have to work together in order to stop the moon from falling on us. That is actually what this movie will be about. It was written, will be performed and filmed, and will then be released into theaters, at which point you will be able to drive down to your local multiplex, fork over some amount of money, and have it happen to you. You will feel terrible about your decision afterwards, but by God, Universal is going to make sure you have the opportunity to do it.

We know nothing else about Moonfall at this time. Thank you.
