Here’s The Stunningly Beautiful First Trailer For LA LA LAND

It's like having a bucket of romance thrown in your face.

Here, at last, is the first trailer for La La Land, the original musical-dramedy from Whiplash director Damien Chazelle. It's probably the prettiest thing you're going to see today.

Seriously. Prepare to melt.

Good lord, what a trailer. That song! That lighting! That shot of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling (reteaming after their fantastic work together in 2011's Crazy Stupid Love) dancing amongst the stars! It's like Chazelle set out to make the greatest cinematic aphrodisiac of all time. He may have succeeded!

As gorgeous as it all is, this trailer's admittedly light on story details. So, here's a plot synopsis:

Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, serves lattes to movie stars in between auditions, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, scrapes by playing cocktail piano gigs in dingy bars, but as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart.

In addition to Stone and Gosling, La La Land will also feature performances from JK Simmons, Finn Wittrock, John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Meagen Fay. Good lord: does this mean we get to see JK Simmons singing? Oh, please say yes.

La La Land screens at the Venice Film Festival in August, and opens here on December 16th. There will be no survivors.
