HIDDEN FIGURES Trailer: Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe Get Their NASA Math On

This one’s checking a lot of Oscar boxes.

The story of Katherine G. Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, three African American women who played a significant role in the mission to get John Glenn into orbit, seems ripe for a Hollywood telling. It’s inspirational, it addresses a part of American history we all adore, it focuses on social struggles like racism and sexism, and it has a choice role for everyone's favorite dad, Kevin Costner.

And look! Here it is!

This looks like a slam dunk for general movie-going audiences. If it were coming out in November, I’d peg it for a ton of Oscar nominations as well. Instead it comes out January 13, which probably gives it a greater opportunity to make a ton of money.
