Johnny Depp Will Investigate The Murders Of Biggie And Tupac In LABYRINTH

You read all of that correctly.

According to a preposterous new report over at Screen Daily, Johnny Depp (TuskYoga Hosers) has signed on to star as a detective investigating the murders of Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur in Brad Furman's Labyrinth.

At this time, it is not known what sort of silly hat Depp might be bringing to the role, but it feels safe to assume it'll be a whimsical twist on Sherlock Holmes' trademark Deerstalker. Maybe he'll even toss a Calabash into the mix.

Here's the pertinent info, via Screen Daily:

Depp will star in the feature from Good Films as Russell Poole, the late LA detective who the towards the end of the 1990s investigated the unsolved assassinations of hip-hop icons Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls.

Poole encountered endless dead ends, yet his dogged legwork uncovered corruption in the LAPD that rocked the institution to its core.

Apparently, Labyrinth does not currently have distribution, but the entire project has been packaged together in the hopes of being pre-sold at this year's Toronto International Film Festival ("TIFF: The Polite Fantastic Fest"). Here's hoping someone picks it up, because Furman and company are ready to start shooting this thing by the end of the year.

Stay tuned for more details on Labyrinth as they become available.
