Trailer For Star-Studded COLLATERAL BEAUTY May Make You Long For A Handy Jellyfish

Holy smokes.

Soon after hitting play on this trailer for Collateral Beauty, you may think you have a good idea where it’s going. But you don’t, I assure you:

That certainly takes a turn, doesn’t it? Will Smith plays a guy in mourning for the loss of his kid. He deals with it by writing letters to, I dunno, concepts like death and time and maybe even hunger or deja vu. And then they just start popping up in the form of recognizable actors to yell at him all day. It’s like American Gods for your granny.

So that’s different. A part of me wants to be a real smartass about this, but I do appreciate that this isn’t your average movie premise. They’re definitely going for something out of the box with this, and I kind of like that, even though it looks about as cheesy as you can get.

I’m not the only one, either. Look at that cast. Will Smith, Helen Mirren, Keira Knightley, Edward Norton, Kate Winslet, Michael Peña… that’s quite a group. Maybe there’s something to this goofy movie. Or, you know, it could be just as accidentally silly as it looks.
