Alfonso Cuaron’s Sets Up His Next Film

And it looks he’s quieting things down a bit.

It’s been a long three years since Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity took the world by storm. That’s a long time to not have another project in the works, especially for someone as unique and talented as Cuarón

But now we know what he’s up to next. Though the movie does not yet have a title (that we know of) Cuarón’s next film will be a family drama set in 1970s Mexico. Since Cuarón grew up in 1970s Mexico, it seems safe to assume the film will at the very least be a more personal endeavor than Gravity, Children of Men or The Prisoner of Azkaban. He’s never been to space, the future or Hogwarts, after all.

Perhaps this will be something more aligned with his early masterpiece, Y Tu Mama Tambien, a prospect that should excite everyone. Cuarón’s films have increasingly featured impressive displays of technical wizardry. While I’m sure some of that will still be in play, I imagine it’ll take more of a backseat here.

Today’s been a good day for film. We got that cool Free Fire poster, confirmation that Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day Lewis are working together again, and now this. All we have to do now is wait for these great things to actually get released so we can see them.
