An Entire Roomful Of Writers Will Bring SHERLOCK HOLMES 3 To Life

Here's an interesting development being reported by Variety: Warner Bros. is moving ahead with a third Sherlock Holmes film, and they've organized an entire team of writers to put the script together:

Sources tell Variety that Warner Bros., Village Roadshow and Team Downey have selected a writers’ room that includes Guardians of the Galaxy scribe Nicole Perlman, Baywatch scribe Justin Malen, Rogue One writer Gary Whitta, Tomb Raider Geneva Dworet-Robertson and Snowden screenwriter Kieran Fitzgerald to help shape the script and story for next installment.

Real talk? I'd sort of forgotten that another Sherlock Holmes movie was even a thing that might happen. Sure, it's only been five years since Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows underwhelmed us all in theaters, but that's more than double the turnaround time between that sequel and the original. And besides: at this point, doesn't it kinda feel like BBC's Sherlock Holmes series has become this generation's definitive take on the character?

Anyway, it's an unusual move to put an entire team of writers on a single movie. Variety correctly points out that a similar approach (more commonly found in TV) is being taken by Paramount with the Transformers franchise and Universal for their upcoming Universal Monsters Shared Universe Initiative, but those are supposed to be multi-film franchises, not a single sequel. Again: interesting.
