Insane And Oddly Therapeutic Short Film Features Luchadores And Mariachis Taking On Robo-Trump

We’re undoubtedly going to see a lot of political satire over the coming years. That won’t make the years of literal fascism we’re about to experience at the hands of our new white nationalist leaders worth it, but it might take the edge off from time to time. The satire’s already begun, in fact; I present to you this spectacular, insane, FX-laden short from commercial director Ale Damiani.

It’s not just the basic concept - tele-deported Mexicans fighting back against a Trump-controlled giant robot at the site of the border wall - nor the gleeful use and subversion of Mexican cliches, or even the quality of the effects and filmmaking that makes this short so great. It’s the sheer density of jokes - the Miss Universe model, the Demolition Man-style border wall invoice machine, the visions of an American-annexed Mexico, the amazing final beat. Mecha-Trumpzilla even has a micropenis that fires missiles. I love it.

The short comes courtesy of the Wecanfixit Project, operating out of a production house in Uruguay, which aims to “change the world using our geeky weapons: cinematography, visual effects and CGI.” To the extent that art can have an impact on the world, these folks deserve a round of applause. You gotta help however you can.

Incidentally, the title - M.A.M.O.N. (Monitor Against Mexicans Over Nationwide) - is a play on the Mexican slang term “mamón” - literally “sucker,” but more commonly used as an equivalent to “cocksucker,” “douchebag,” “fuck-knuckle,” “clown-shoes,” or “Donald Trump.” It can also refer to a baby’s pacifier, which conveniently also applies to the Dictator-Elect.
