Turns Out, Matt Damon’s Gonna Be In OCEAN’S EIGHT

Matt Damon is returning to the OEU.

As you know, Ocean's Eight - a female-centric spin-off from Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's trilogy, wherein Sandra Bullock will play the (presumably) heist-prone sister of George Clooney's Danny Ocean - is filming as we speak. It's a fun idea for a spin-off, and one we're legitimately looking forward to 'round these parts.

And now, thanks to a loose-lipped Matt Damon speaking to Entertainment Tonight, we're actually one-thirteenth more excited:

"I'm doing a little bit in the movie," Damon shared. "I haven't read it yet, but the cast is phenomenal and I'm excited to see what those women do with it. It's going to be fun."

Yes, Matt Damon - who played Linus Caldwell in Soderbergh's Ocean's trilogy -  will make an appearance in Gary Ross' Ocean's Eight. Will he be playing the same character? Seems a safe bet, given the known connection to the other Ocean's films. I'm guessing Bullock's crew ends up consulting Linus in some way, though I suppose it's possible they'll find another use for him (perhaps a reversal of the "You look just like Julia Roberts" gag from Ocean's Twelve?).

Ocean's Eight should wrap filming soon, but won't be along for a while: the official release date is in June of 2018. Stay tuned for what I imagine will be many, many more updates between now and then.
