DAY OF THE TENTACLE Is Free For PlayStation Plus Members In January
Here's a public service announcement that will only be of use to a very specific subset of the Birth.Movies.Death. readership, but one we still feel obligated to share with the group: if you've got a PlayStation 4, a PlayStation Plus account and you have exceptionally good taste in video games, you need to be aware that LucasArts' classic adventure game, Day Of The Tentacle, will be free to own during the month of January, starting on Tuesday.
If you do not have a PlayStation 4, a PlayStation Plus account and/or you have terrible taste in video games, you're missing out in so many ways that we cannot even begin to deal with you. Please get your house in order and don't report back to us until you do.
Day Of The Tentacle is, quite simply, one of the greatest games ever made, a hilarious point-and-click adventure involving time travel, a mummy, a mad scientist, a sentient purple tentacle bent on world domination, and the trio of unlikely heroes who are called upon to stop that from happening. Technically-speaking, it's a sequel to a previous LucasArts title, Maniac Mansion, but you don't need to have played that game in order to appreciate Day Of The Tentacle.

If you're a new PS4 owner and you're on the fence as to whether or not to throw down for the PS+ service, my advice is to take the plunge. Every month, PS+ members get two free games, and - far more often than not - the titles selected by Sony are solid. They're never new titles (they tend to be titles that've been sitting around the PSN for a few months, typically in the $15-20 range), but they're rarely worth skipping (Day Of The Tentacle is actually just the latest in a long line of PS+ titles I already paid for months ago, which is one drawback to the service).
And if you played Day Of The Tentacle back in the day and aren't sure if you need to give it another go: be aware that a) the game more than holds up, and b) that this version's the Remastered edition, which means you can play it in its original, pixelated glory ... or in a newfangled, slightly smoother version. Either way, you're gonna have a good time.
Anyway, certain segments of the BMD team are big, big fans of this title, and we felt obligated to spread the word, especially with so many of you having picked up a PS4 for Christmas. Get your PS+ accounts set up and get ready to have your mind blown by this awesome game when it goes free on Tuesday.
